Early Life
Aniston was born Yannis Anastassakis (Greek: Γιάννης Αναστασάκης) in Chania on the island of Crete, Greece, the son of Stella Joanne (October 1, 1899 — November 7, 1992) and Antonios Anastassakis (January 17, 1889 — May, 1965). His father anglicized his name when he emigrated to the United States when Aniston was two, and his parents opened a restaurant in Chester, Pennsylvania.
He graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a bachelor's degree in Theater Arts, served in the United States Navy as an intelligence officer on active duty in Panama and later in the reserve, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Commander.

Famous quotes containing the words early and/or life:
“Never hug and kiss your children! Mother love may make your childrens infancy unhappy and prevent them from pursuing a career or getting married! Thats total hogwash, of course. But it shows on extreme example of what state-of-the-art scientific parenting was supposed to be in early twentieth-century America. After all, that was the heyday of efficiency experts, time-and-motion studies, and the like.”
—Lawrence Kutner (20th century)
“That way of life against which my generation rebelled had given us grim courage, fortitude, self-discipline, a sense of individual responsibility, and a capacity for relentless hard work.”
—Rose Wilder Lane (18861968)
