Early Years and Life As A Skilled Debater

John Almond passed his childhood at circa 1577, and at Much Woolton, Lancashire. His childhood and early manhood were spent in Ireland, until he went to the English College in Rome, at the age of twenty, where he was ordained as a priest, returning to England as a missionary in 1602. He concluded his term there by giving the 'Grand Act' -- a public defence of theses which cover the whole course of philosophy and theology—and was warmly congratulated by Cardinals Caesar Baronius and Francesco Maria Tarugi, who presided.

Famous quotes containing the words early years, early, years, life, skilled and/or debater:

If there is a price to pay for the privilege of spending the early years of child rearing in the driver’s seat, it is our reluctance, our inability, to tolerate being demoted to the backseat. Spurred by our success in programming our children during the preschool years, we may find it difficult to forgo in later states the level of control that once afforded us so much satisfaction.
    Melinda M. Marshall (20th century)

    the cluttered eyes
    of early mysterious night.
    Imamu Amiri Baraka (b. 1934)

With care, and skill, and cunning art,
    She parried Time’s malicious dart,
And kept the years at bay,
Till passion entered in her heart
And aged her in a day!
    Ella Wheeler Wilcox (1850–1919)

The arbitrary division of one’s life into weeks and days and hours seemed, on the whole, useless. There was but one day for the men, and that was pay day, and one for the women, and that was rent day. As for the children, every day was theirs, just as it should be in every corner of the world.
    Alice Caldwell Rice (1870–1942)

    No skilled hands
caress a stranger’s flesh with lucid oil before
    a word is spoken
    no feasting
before a tale is told, before
    the stranger tells his name.
    Denise Levertov (b. 1923)

Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?
Bible: New Testament, 1 Corinthians 1:20.
