John-Paul Flintoff - Other Work

Other Work

In his classes at The School of Life Flintoff frequently emphasizes the importance of recognising that we all capable of much more than whatever it happens to say on our business cards. In Sew Your Own, he claimed to have worked as, among other things, a bin man, executive PA, scuba diver, poet, taxi driver, tailor, gardener, ice-cream salesman, film-maker, assistant undertaker, bit-part player in pantomime, waiter, illustrator, high-wire window cleaner, photographer, very amateur boxer, karaoke singer and rat catcher.

Along with Alexis Rowell, Flintoff was a founder of Transition Belsize, one of the earliest examples of the Transition Movement in big cities. Flintoff has said he was inspired to set it up after meeting Duncan Law of Transition Brixton.

Famous quotes containing the word work:

Writing a book I have found to be like building a house. A man forms a plan, and collects materials. He thinks he has enough to raise a large and stately edifice; but after he has arranged, compacted and polished, his work turns out to be a very small performance. The authour however like the builder, knows how much labour his work has cost him; and therefore estimates it at a higher rate than other people think it deserves,
    James Boswell (1740–1795)

To work and suffer is to be at home.
    All else is scenery ...
    Adrienne Rich (b. 1929)
