Jocelyn Burdick

Jocelyn Birch Burdick (born February 6, 1922) was a Democratic United States Senator briefly during 1992.

Upon the death of her husband, Senator Quentin N. Burdick, Governor George Sinner appointed her to fill the vacancy until a special election was held. She was not a candidate for election to the rest of the term, and retired to Fargo upon the election of Kent Conrad to the office.

Burdick was the first woman to serve in either house of the U.S. Congress from North Dakota. She lives in Fargo where she continues to remain active in politics.
