Joaquim Nadal I Farreras - Period in Catalan Government (2003-2010)

Period in Catalan Government (2003-2010)

In the year 2003, he joined the government of Pasqual Maragall (PSC) as Councillor of Territorial Politics and Public Works, being as well the Spokesman of the Catalan Government. From his department, Nadal has promoted and approved the Catalan Plan for Transport Infrastructures, which must rule all the new infrastructures of Catalonia –road and railway ones- until 2026. In this Plan is included the railway cross axis that must link central Catalonia with the Lleida and Girona areas. From the 15th May 2006 until the end of the term of office, he also was Councillor of the Presidency.

He took part in the self-proclaimed alternative government of the socialist candidate Pasqual Maragall, between 2000 and 2003, as first councillor and responsible for the Education and Work departments. The aim of this “government” was to appear as an alternative to Jordi Pujol’s way of ruling.

Famous quotes containing the words period, catalan and/or government:

Intellectual life is international. Only a period of discouragement, an age that has given up on itself, that wants to “preserve,” that has been driven onto the defensive, can be intellectually nationalist. Such a period is essentially “conservative.” A person who has progress in his heart is international.
    Robert Musil (1880–1942)

God forgives the sin of gluttony.
Catalan proverb, quoted in Colman Andrews, Catalan Cuisine.

During the first formative centuries of its existence, Christianity was separated from and indeed antagonistic to the state, with which it only later became involved. From the lifetime of its founder, Islam was the state, and the identity of religion and government is indelibly stamped on the memories and awareness of the faithful from their own sacred writings, history, and experience.
Bernard Lewis, U.S. Middle Eastern specialist. Islam and the West, ch. 8, Oxford University Press (1993)
