Jiskani State
In the heart of Thal exists a bustling little town with a few thousand inhabitants, called Mankera. It is now a tehsil headquarter in Bakhar district. Towards the end of the fifteenth century, the Jiskani Baloch from Makran flocked into the Thal in and around Mankera, and subsequently ruled this state for the next three hundred years. During the period of Baloch ruler Baloch Khan (the blind), Jhanda Singh of Bhangian wali Misl attacked and devastated the area and was soon ousted. Abdul Nabi Kalhora with help of the Afghan king took over it from the last Baloch ruler, Mohammad Khan Jiskani, in 789 AD.

Famous quotes containing the word state:
“The Indian attitude toward the land was expressed by a Crow named Curly: The soil you see is not ordinary soilit is the dust of the blood, the flesh, and the bones of our ancestors. You will have to dig down to find Natures earth, for the upper portion is Crow, my blood and my dead. I do not want to give it up.”
