Bennett is an out lesbian. She said "There are plenty of lesbians in Hollywood, but they're not out. And that's their choice, but I can't do that, it's too important to me". She is in a relationship with actress Cathy DeBuono, with whom she has worked many times. She converted to Judaism and has spoken about her experience in some of her SheWired video blogs.
