Early Life
Wallace was born at 204 Durants Road, Enfield, North London, to James, a telecommunications engineer, and Annette, a secretary. Her parents divorced when she was aged three and, unusually, she and her sister were raised by their father (however, she did see her mother at weekends). She adopted her stage name after her late grandmother.

Famous quotes containing the words early and/or life:
“We have good reason to believe that memories of early childhood do not persist in consciousness because of the absence or fragmentary character of language covering this period. Words serve as fixatives for mental images. . . . Even at the end of the second year of life when word tags exist for a number of objects in the childs life, these words are discrete and do not yet bind together the parts of an experience or organize them in a way that can produce a coherent memory.”
—Selma H. Fraiberg (20th century)
“They who are continually shocked by slavery have some right to be shocked by the violent death of the slaveholder, but no others. Such will be more shocked by his life than by his death.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
