Voice Actors

Jerry is primarily mute in most incarnations of Tom and Jerry. William Hanna provided the vocal effects for Jerry in most of the 1940-58 Tom and Jerry shorts. Once, he was voiced by Lillian Randolph who often voices Mammy Two Shoes, but in The Milky Waif Jerry and Nibbles disguising themselves as black people to fool Tom (see Censorship for information). Vocal effects in the 1961/2 Gene Deitch shorts were provided by Allen Swift. Sara Berner sings and speaks for Jerry in Anchors Aweigh, while Dana Hill voices Jerry in Tom and Jerry: The Movie.

In later years, Jerry was voiced by:

  • Frank Welker: The Tom and Jerry Comedy Show, Tom and Jerry Kids, Tom and Jerry: The Magic Ring

Famous quotes containing the words voice and/or actors:

    Our frigate takes fire,
The other asks if we demand quarter?
If our colors are struck and the fighting done?
Now I laugh content for I hear the voice of my little captain,
We have not struck, he composedly cries, we have just begun our part of the fighting.
    Walt Whitman (1819–1892)

The actors today really need the whip hand. They’re so lazy. They haven’t got the sense of pride in their profession that the less socially elevated musical comedy and music hall people or acrobats have. The theater has never been any good since the actors became gentlemen.
