Jeremy Larner - Chicken On Church

Chicken On Church

It was in New York that Larner was inspired to write Chicken on Church, both a mock-epic and a love poem to the city, particularly to the neighborhood on the end of Manhattan Island, Whitmanesque but full of specific detail and classical allusions.

He first wrote the poem in 1992, and has revised it frequently since then. "Chicken on Church" and selected other poems have recently been published by Big Rooster Press.

Famous quotes containing the words chicken and/or church:

Unhappy, eagle wings and bleak, chicken brain.
    Robinson Jeffers (1887–1962)

It is time that the Protestant Church, the Church of the Son, should be one again with the Roman Catholic Church, the Church of the Father. It is time that man shall cease, first to live in the flesh, with joy, and then, unsatisfied, to renounce and to mortify the flesh.
