Famous quotes containing the words defeat and, defeat and/or resignation:

And this must be the prime of life . . . I blink,
As if at pain; for it is pain, to think

Defeat and counterfeit, makes up, in fact,
    My ablest time.
    Philip Larkin (1922–1986)

In victory be not proud; in defeat be not depressed.
    Chinese proverb.

Resignation, not mystic, not detached, but resignation open- eyed, conscious, and informed by love, is the only one of our feelings for which it is impossible to become a sham.
    Joseph Conrad (1857–1924)
