Jeffry House - American Soldiers

American Soldiers

House has represented American soldiers applying for refugee status in Canada after they deserted the American military during the Iraq War (2003–present), including Jeremy Hinzman, Josh Key, Kyle Snyder, and Brandon Hughey. The cases of Jeremy Hinzman and Brandon Hughey have been heard and rejected by the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada, refused at the Federal Court of Canada, refused at the Federal Court of Appeal, and refused at the Supreme Court of Canada.

The presence of US Army deserters in Canada is being widely reported in the international news media, as well as in Canada and in the United States. During the Vietnam War, upwards of 50,000 U.S. draft evaders and military deserters found refuge in Canada.

Famous quotes containing the words american and/or soldiers:

Being American is to eat a lot of beef steak, and boy, we’ve got a lot more beef steak than any other country, and that’s why you ought to be glad you’re an American. And people have started looking at these big hunks of bloody meat on their plates, you know, and wondering what on earth they think they’re doing.
    Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. (b. 1922)

According to U.S. strategy, if you never see the other, his destruction will be more acceptable ... so that when Iraqi soldiers surrendered, sooner than expected, it was as if they emerged from a dream, a flash-back, a lost epoch—an epoch when the enemy still had a body and was still “like us.”
    Serge Daney (1944–1992)
