Family
Pakal’s dynastic position is not entirely certain, though he may have been the father of Aj Ne' Yohl Mat. It seems that he never ascended to the high-kingship in his own right.
He was the father of Lady Sak K'uk', one of the rare queens regnant of Maya history. His wife was Yohl Ik'nal.
He should not be confused with his grandson, K'inich Janaabʻ Pakal, who during a long reign of some 68 years was responsible for the construction or extension of some of Palenque’s most notable surviving inscriptions and monumental architecture.

Famous quotes containing the word family:
“What we often take to be family valuesthe work ethic, honesty, clean living, marital fidelity, and individual responsibilityare in fact social, religious, or cultural values. To be sure, these values are transmitted by parents to their children and are familial in that sense. They do not, however, originate within the family. It is the value of close relationships with other family members, and the importance of these bonds relative to other needs.”
—David Elkind (20th century)
“Our children need to be able to see us take a stand for a value and against injustices, be those values and injustices in the family room, the boardroom, the classroom, or on the city streets.”
—Barbara Coloroso (20th century)
“Being so wrong about her makes me wonder now how often I am utterly wrong about myself. And how wrong she might have been about her mother, how wrong he might have been about his father, how much of family life is a vast web of misunderstandings, a tinted and touched-up family portrait, an accurate representation of fact that leaves out only the essential truth.”
—Anna Quindlen (b. 1952)
