Legacy and Memorials
Oglethorpe County and Oglethorpe University in Atlanta are named in his honor.
In the 1930s, the president of Oglethorpe University explored the Oglethorpe family vault at All Saints', which was rebuilt c. 1871. The new building reused the foundations of the old one. Oglethorpe's memorial was hence returned to its former location on the south wall of the chancel, where it may still be viewed today.
Oglethorpian anniversaries have since led to the donation of the altar rail at All Saints' by a ladies charity in Georgia. In 1996, then Georgia Governor Zell Miller attended Oglethrope tercentenary festivities in Goldaming and at Corpus Christi College, Oxford.
