Testing At James Lick
At James Lick and many other schools, students need to take the CELDT test. It is for students whose second language is English. CEDLT testing is to figure out how well students know English.
In all California’s schools, all students have to take the Star test. The STAR test score will stay in the students’ record, and that the student can not retake it. The score helps decide what classes students need for the next year. The scores tell how schools are moving forward and if teachers are doing good teaching.
James Lick remains below state averages in a variety of areas. The state API (Academic Performance Index) goal is 800, while in 2007 James Lick only attained 632. The 2004 API score of the entire school was 587. Academically, it is widely considered below other schools in the area such as Mt. Pleasant and Independence High School.

“I know. Thats what makes us tough. Rich fellows come up and they die. Their kids aint no good and they die out. But we keepa comin. Were the people that live. They cant wipe us out. They cant lick us. Well go on forever, Pa, cause were the people.”
