Jakers! The Adventures of Piggley Winks

Jakers! The Adventures of Piggley Winks (or Jakers in Europe) is an animated drama children's television series. The show is animated using computer-generated imagery and broadcast in the United States on PBS Kids (English) from 2003–2008, currently WMBC, and Univision (dubbed in Spanish as of April 2008 to September 2010); in Ireland on RTÉ Two, as part of The Den; in Australia on ABC; in Ontario on TVOKids; in the UK on BBC TV; in Poland on TVP and in Brazil on TV Cultura and Discovery Kids. It has been translated into Scottish Gaelic for viewers watching BBC Two Scotland, as well as into German, Portuguese, Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, Icelandic and Italian.

The show chronicles the boyhood adventures of Piggley Winks, an anthropomorphic pig from Ireland and how he relates these stories to his grandchildren as a grandfather in the present day.

The word "jakers" was originally a euphemism for "Jesus" in Ireland during the 1950s and 1960s and was an exclamation of surprise, delight, dismay, or alarm. Piggley and his father use it to express their delight when they discover something on their adventures.

Famous quotes containing the words adventures and/or winks:

I have a vast deal to say, and shall give all this morning to my pen. As to my plan of writing every evening the adventures of the day, I find it impracticable; for the diversions here are so very late, that if I begin my letters after them, I could not go to bed at all.
    Frances Burney (1752–1840)

One who winks the eyes plans perverse things; one who compresses the lips brings evil to pass.
    Bible: Hebrew, Proverbs 16:30.
