Jake Moon - Storylines

Storylines

Jake made his first appearance on 30 December 2004 with his brother, Danny (Jake Maskall), as the second cousins of Alfie (Shane Richie) and Spencer (Christopher Parker). He was a witness to the murder of his boss, Andy Hunter (Michael Higgs), by Johnny Allen (Billy Murray). At that period of time, there was some animosity between Jake and Danny. Jake decided to resolve this situation by taking Danny to the flyover that Andy had been thrown from and explaining to his sibling that it could have easily been him that died. Jake was employed by Johnny for several months after this, along with Danny. Both of them were fired in June 2005 because a reformed Johnny decided they were a part of his former life as a gangland boss.

Jake and Chrissie reconcile. He also told Johnny that he would not be starting trouble, and was there for personal reasons, and his ex-boss allowed him to stay. Meanwhile, Chrissie confessed to Jake that she murdered her husband, Den (Leslie Grantham), whose body had been uncovered from the cellar of The Queen Victoria pub several weeks before. Jake was devastated, but decided his love for Chrissie was too strong to let go, so they decided to make an escape after it became apparent that most people doubted Chrissie's innocence and that it was only a matter of time before vital evidence would pop up to put her in the frame. Both Jake and Chrissie were unaware that the confession was caught on CCTV at Johnny Allen's club, Scarlet. Grant (Ross Kemp) and Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) returned to set free their sister Sam (Kim Medcalf), who had been framed by Chrissie for the killing. They beat up Johnny and stole the video tape of Chrissie's confession, and Chrissie was arrested as she and Jake were at the airport ready to flee abroad. Sam was set free and Chrissie imprisoned. After several visits, Jake promised never to ditch Chrissie, and he proposed marriage to her. Chrissie told Jake that she'd been doing a lot of thinking, and that she didn't want Jake to put his life on hold for as many years that she'd be inside. She told him she was going to plead guilty to murder and let Jake go. She made him promise that he'd never visit her again out of love.

Sometime later, Jake discovered Danny had been living in Johnny's mansion in Essex, and tracked him down. He tried to persuade Danny to return with him to Walford but Danny said Johnny's home was also his home now. Jake realised Danny had become mentally unstable since his time away from Walford and that Johnny was just using him to do his dirty work. Danny then revealed that he owed Johnny a favour, and in order to gain his approval, he had to do something. Danny then showed Jake a mobile phone recording of Dennis Rickman being killed on New Year's Eve 2005. Jake was shocked when he realised Danny had killed Dennis on Johnny's orders. He tried to stop Danny from doing any more, and Danny knocked him unconscious.

Phil and Grant had tracked Johnny down and wanted him to confess to Dennis's murder. When Johnny got them tied up, Danny marched the Mitchells into the nearby woods armed with a shotgun and spade with the intent to kill them. Just as he was about to kill Grant, Jake appeared with the pistol that Danny had dropped during the earlier struggle and, only meaning to shoot his brother in the arm or leg, fired a fatal shot. Danny was killed instantly. Jake buried him in the woods where he died, with only the spade to mark his grave. After Johnny was finally arrested for Dennis Rickman's (Nigel Harman) murder, Jake took Johnny's daughter Ruby (Louisa Lytton) back with him to Walford.

Jake and Carly Wicks (Kellie Shirley) sparked up some sexual chemistry in August 2006. This started when Jake was serving Owen Turner (Lee Ross) and Carly in the club. Owen became drunk and started to insult Carly after she agreed with Jake that Owen had had too many drinks. Owen came up to Carly but Jake came between them. This ended in a big fight between Jake and Carly and a drunken Owen. Owen then left the club. Jake landed on top of Carly and they began to kiss passionately. Soon after, they started to tear each other's clothes off and then had sex behind the bar. Later, Denise Fox (Diane Parish) and Kevin Wicks (Phil Daniels) walked in, looking for Denise's daughter Libby Fox (Belinda Owusu). They then left, not knowing that Jake and Carly were behind the bar. However, Jake ended the relationship after a week.

Jake employed Sean Slater (Robert Kazinsky) at Scarlet, but regretted his decision when Sean started dating Ruby. Sean started slacking off work with Ruby, and Jake also walked in on Sean with a brewery agent, Karin Jones. Sean's actions implied that he had just had sex with Karin. Jake rightly guessed that Sean was using Ruby, only interested in her money. He and Sean became bitter enemies, but Sean successfully convinced a love-struck Ruby that he loved her and that Jake was out to cause trouble between them. Ruby even told Sean that it was Jake who had murdered Danny - giving Sean a hold over Jake.

Desperate to save Ruby from Sean's scheming, in October 2006 Jake turned to Johnny (who had been paying Jake to look after Ruby since he had been in prison) and told him what Sean was doing. Johnny told Jake he wanted to meet Sean to see for himself what he was like, so Jake gave Sean his own pass for visiting Johnny in prison. On the visit Sean confronted Johnny and ignored his threats, openly taunting him by telling him what he was doing to Ruby and telling him there was nothing Johnny or Jake could do to stop him. Johnny got worked up during this meeting and went to phone Jake to order him to kill Sean. As he lifted the receiver, he had a massive heart attack, and tried to whisper into the phone "Jake... kill him for me". His cellmate mistakenly claims that Johnny wanted Jake dead. As Ruby prepared to celebrate her 18th birthday in Walford, she sacked Jake for causing trouble between Sean and Johnny. He finally lost patience with her, told her what he thought of her, took some money from the safe at Scarlet and packed his bags. As he walked out of Albert Square for good, he was confronted by a sinister-looking stranger who asked if he was Jake Moon. Jake has not been seen since, and is presumed dead, although this is uncertain.
