Release
Just prior to the film's release, David Caruso decided that his popularity as star of the hit ABC TV series NYPD Blue would provide enough momentum to successfully make the risky jump from television leading man, to feature film leading man. However, Caruso's role in the film was a huge departure from the traditionally heroic role that had made him a hit with American TV viewers. Despite a large marketing campaign, moviegoers did not accept Caruso's drastic change of character, or the dark and overtly sexual themes of the film. Jade was a huge failure at the box office and with movie critics. This, combined with a starring role in a second box office flop released the same year (Kiss of Death) killed Caruso's film career. Comeback roles in television failed until he landed the lead role in CBS' 2002 spin-off series, CSI: Miami.

Famous quotes containing the word release:
“The shallow consider liberty a release from all law, from every constraint. The wise man sees in it, on the contrary, the potent Law of Laws.”
—Walt Whitman (18191892)
“An inquiry about the attitude towards the release of so-called political prisoners. I should be very sorry to see the United States holding anyone in confinement on account of any opinion that that person might hold. It is a fundamental tenet of our institutions that people have a right to believe what they want to believe and hold such opinions as they want to hold without having to answer to anyone for their private opinion.”
—Calvin Coolidge (18721933)
“Come, thou long-expected Jesus,
born to set thy people free;
from our fears and sins release us,
let us find our rest in thee.”
—Charles Wesley (17071788)
