Public Recognition
By the age of 65 he had achieved sufficient recognition for a dramatised version of his biography, directed by Norman Stone, to be produced and screened by the BBC in 1981. No tapes of this programme have survived. A few years later a biography of Jack Clemo was written by Sally Magnusson. His portrait was also painted by Tricia Porter in 1975 and is displayed at the National Portrait Gallery in London.

Famous quotes containing the words public and/or recognition:
“Wags try to invent new stories to tell about the legislature, and end by telling the old one about the senator who explained his unaccustomed possession of a large roll of bills by saying that someone pushed it over the transom while he slept. The expression It came over the transom, to explain any unusual good fortune, is part of local folklore.”
—For the State of Montana, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)
“In a cabinet of natural history, we become sensible of a certain occult recognition and sympathy in regard to the most unwieldy and eccentric forms of beast, fish, and insect.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
