Life and Career

Miko was born in Łódź, Poland, the daughter of actors Grażyna Dyląg and Aleksander Mikołajczak. She grew up in Warsaw, where she studied to be a ballerina. An American choreographer invited her to study in New York City on a scholarship, and she traveled there with her mother on her 15th birthday.

Miko's American film debut was in Coyote Ugly in 2000. In addition, she appeared in three episodes of HBO's Golden Globe and Emmy Award-winning Deadwood, and in The Killers' music video for Mr Brightside. She also appears in the video for The Killers' upcoming new single "Miss Atomic Bomb", which is believed to be a prequel to "Mr Brightside". Miko broke her foot in the process of the video shoot. In 2010, Miko appeared in the big-budget remake Clash of the Titans as Athena. She was also in a supporting role as an acrobat named Raia in the short lived television series The Cape.

Miko supports green politics and keeps a video blog to talk about her current concerns. Miko was ranked #48 on Maxim's Hot 100 Women of 2001 list.

Famous quotes containing the words life and/or career:

Anarchism is the only philosophy which brings man the consciousness of himself; which maintains that God, the State, and society are non-existent, that their promises are null and void, since they can be fulfilled only through man’s subordination.... The individual is the heart of society, conserving the essence of social life; society is the lungs which are distributing the element to keep the life essence—that, is, the individual—pure and strong.
    Emma Goldman (1869–1940)

Whether lawyer, politician or executive, the American who knows what’s good for his career seeks an institutional rather than an individual identity. He becomes the man from NBC or IBM. The institutional imprint furnishes him with pension, meaning, proofs of existence. A man without a company name is a man without a country.
    Lewis H. Lapham (b. 1935)
