The Ivan Radoev Dramatic Theatre (Bulgarian: Драматичен театър ”Иван Радоев”, Dramatichen teatar ”Ivan Radoev”) is a theatre in Pleven, Bulgaria. Its edifice in the centre of the city was designed by an Austro-Hungarian architect and built 1893-1895. The theatre was founded in 1918 as the Pleven Municipal Theatre, the first premiere being Kean by Alexandre Dumas, père (6 February 1919).
Famous quotes containing the words dramatic and/or theatre:
“The mere mechanical technique of acting can be taught, but the spirit that is to give life to lifeless forms must be born in a man. No dramatic college can teach its pupils to think or to feel. It is Nature who makes our artists for us, though it may be Art who taught them their right mode of expression.”
—Oscar Wilde (18541900)
“Mankinds common instinct for reality ... has always held the world to be essentially a theatre for heroism. In heroism, we feel, lifes supreme mystery is hidden. We tolerate no one who has no capacity whatever for it in any direction. On the other hand, no matter what a mans frailties otherwise may be, if he be willing to risk death, and still more if he suffer it heroically, in the service he has chosen, the fact consecrates him forever.”
—William James (18421910)
