Italian Battleship Roma (1940) - Post Script

Post Script

The sunken vessel was found in June 2012 by the underwater robot 'Pluto Palla,' designed by Italian engineer Guido Gay. It was discovered about 30 kilometers off the northern coast of Sardinia at a depth of around 1,000 mt (3,300 ft). On 10 September 2012 a memorial ceremony was held on an Italian frigate over the spot where Roma went down. Giampaolo Di Paola, himself a former naval officer and now the defence minister, at the ceremony described the dead sailors as "unwitting heroes who found their place in history because they carried out their duty right until the end".

Famous quotes containing the words post and/or script:

My business is stanching blood and feeding fainting men; my post the open field between the bullet and the hospital. I sometimes discuss the application of a compress or a wisp of hay under a broken limb, but not the bearing and merits of a political movement. I make gruel—not speeches; I write letters home for wounded soldiers, not political addresses.
    Clara Barton (1821–1912)

    I long to create something
that can’t be used to keep us passive:
    I want to write
a script about plumbing, how every pipe
    is joined
    to every other.
    Adrienne Rich (b. 1929)
