Plotline
In 1896, it is announced that the first Olympic Games will be revived in Athens. A young shepherd, Spiridon Loues (Colton), decides to enter the 26-mile marathon. Once in Athens, he meets Christina Gratsos (Kalogeropoulou) a young woman from his hometown who is now the personal maid to Greece's most well-known actress, Eleni Costa (Mansfield). Her lover, Lt. Alexi Vinardos (Minardos), is a powerful man in Greece and is a respected runner. After learning he has arrived after the entry date, Loues's athletic prowess so impresses Coach Graham (Mathias), that he is let in the race.
In order to promote herself for up-coming newspapers, Costa announces that she'll marry the winner of the marathon, having faith that it will be her beloved Vinardos. However, upon meeting Spiridon, Costa falls head-over-heels in love and tries her best to take him from Christina. Spiridon stays true to Christina and convinces her not to go to America with her father and instead stay with him in Greece and marry him after he wins the marathon. Christina, however, worries that Spiridon will forget all about her once he wins the race and will marry Eleni instead of her. Spiridon disagrees and pleads that he'll marry her.
After starting the race in dead last, Spiridon comes in first in the race. However, Eleni, now has a change of heart and tells Spiridon to go find Christina and marry him, specifically stating "...she's your girl, not me". Spiridon then tries to run to find Christina, but faints. He is revived two hours later thinks everything that has happened was a dream. He is convinced that is was true and finds Christina as he returns to the finishing line to remember his captured glory. As he and Christina and share a kiss, the film fades to black.
