Issues In Social Nudity
Social nudity such as naturism, is nudity in both public and private locations. It is sometimes controversial for addressing and exploring a myriad of sometimes taboo subjects, stereotypes and mores relating to the nude appearance of the human body. Although a range of issues are sometimes discussed, this does not necessarily mean they occur frequently.
One of the greatest challenges of naturism is increasing the participation of young adults, families, females, inner-city dwellers, and those of non-European ethnic backgrounds—all of whom are underrepresented in the naturist community. Some isolated indigenous nudity still exists in the tropics, though this way of life is highly endangered, as is the classical male "skinny dipping" amongst the general public. Modern European-style naturism began around the turn of the 20th century, and was later adapted in America as well.

Famous quotes containing the words issues, social and/or nudity:
“The current flows fast and furious. It issues in a spate of words from the loudspeakers and the politicians. Every day they tell us that we are a free people fighting to defend freedom. That is the current that has whirled the young airman up into the sky and keeps him circulating there among the clouds. Down here, with a roof to cover us and a gasmask handy, it is our business to puncture gasbags and discover the seeds of truth.”
—Virginia Woolf (18821941)
“What is done for science must also be done for art: accepting undesirable side effects for the sake of the main goal, and moreover diminishing their importance by making this main goal more magnificent. For one should reform forward, not backward: social illnesses, revolutions, are evolutions inhibited by a conserving stupidity.”
—Robert Musil (18801942)
“They threw off their clothes, and he gathered her to him, and found her, found the pure lambent reality of her for ever invisible flesh. Quenched, inhuman, his fingers upon her unrevealed nudity were the fingers of silence upon silence, the body of mysterious night upon the body of mysterious night, the night masculine and feminine, never to be seen with the eye, or known with the mind, only known as a palpable revelation of living otherness.”
—D.H. (David Herbert)
