Israel Post

Israel Post (Hebrew: ישראל פוסט‎), originally Metro Israel, is an Israeli Hebrew-language free daily newspaper based on the concept of the Metro newspapers. Co-owned by Eli Azur (who owns controlling interest in The Jerusalem Post) and David Weisman, it was first published on August 5, 2007. It is Israel's only afternoon newspaper and distributed mainly in establishments owned by Weisman, such as Blue Square supermarkets, the AM-PM convenience stores and Dor-Alon gas stations. Part of the material is translated from the English-language Jerusalem Post and The Business Post newspapers. Most of the advertisements during the preliminary period are of Weisman's businesses.

In July 2010, a TGI survey of the media reported that Israel Post overtook Haaretz as the fourth largest newspaper in terms of exposure with a rate of 7.6% versus Haaretz's rate of only 6.5%.

The publishing company is Metro Israel Ltd., located in Tel Aviv. The chief editor is Golan Bar Yosef.

Famous quotes containing the words israel and/or post:

    Never since has there arisen a prophet in Israel like Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face.
    Bible: Hebrew, Deuteronomy 34:10.

    Fear death?—to feel the fog in my throat,
    The mist in my face,
    When the snows begin, and the blasts denote
    I am nearing the place,
    The power of the night, the press of the storm,
    The post of the foe;
    Where he stands, the Arch Fear in a visible form,
    Yet the strong man must go:
    Robert Browning (1812–1889)
