Isle of Thanet (UK Parliament Constituency) - Boundaries

Boundaries

Between 1918 and 1945 the constituency comprised the Municipal Districts of Margate, Ramsgate and Sandwich, the Urban District of Broadstairs and St Peters and the Rural District of Isle of Thanet.

In 1935 the Rural District of Isle of Thanet was abolished and was merged with the Rural District of Eastry (of which part was in the constituency).

In the boundary changes prior to the 1950 election the MD of Sandwich was transferred to Dover.

The boundary changes of November 1970 resulted in the division of the constituency into two. Thanet East which comprised the Ramsgate MB and Broadstairs & St Peters UD, and Thanet West which comprised the Margate MB and part of Eastry RD.

Famous quotes containing the word boundaries:

Not too many years ago, a child’s experience was limited by how far he or she could ride a bicycle or by the physical boundaries that parents set. Today ... the real boundaries of a child’s life are set more by the number of available cable channels and videotapes, by the simulated reality of videogames, by the number of megabytes of memory in the home computer. Now kids can go anywhere, as long as they stay inside the electronic bubble.
    Richard Louv (20th century)

We love to overlook the boundaries which we do not wish to pass.
    Samuel Johnson (1709–1784)

We must be generously willing to leave for a time the narrow boundaries in which our individual lives are passed ... In this fresh, breezy atmosphere ... we will be surprised to find that many of our familiar old conventional truths look very queer indeed in some of the sudden side lights thrown upon them.
    Bertha Honore Potter Palmer (1849–1918)
