All of the Isle of Man Railways locomotives and Manx Northern No 3 "Thornhill" were built to an adaptation of an 1866 design Beyer Peacock had supplied for the Cape Gauge sections of Norwegian State Railways. The Manx locomotives came in three principle variants:
