Island Records Discography
The history and the discography of the Island Records label can conveniently be divided into three phases:
- The Jamaican Years, covering the label's releases from 1959 to 1966
- The New Ground Years, covering 1967 to approximately 1980.
- The Consolidation Years, covering 1980 onwards. In 1989, Chris Blackwell sold Island Records to Polygram, which resulted in a remarketing of the Island back catalogue on compact disc under the Island Masters brand.

Famous quotes containing the words island and/or records:
“I ... would rather be in dependance on Great Britain, properly limited, than on any nation upon earth, or than on no nation. But I am one of those too who rather than submit to the right of legislating for us assumed by the British parliament, and which late experience has shewn they will so cruelly exercise, would lend my hand to sink the whole island in the ocean.”
—Thomas Jefferson (17431826)
“Its always the generals with the bloodiest records who are the first to shout what a hell it is. And its always the war widows who lead the Memorial Day parades.”
—Paddy Chayefsky (19231981)
