Islamic World Academy of Sciences - Foundation

Foundation

The establishment of the Islamic world Academy of Sciences IAS was initially proposed by the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC, now the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation) Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Co-operation (COMSTECH), and approved by the Fourth Islamic Summit held in Casablanca in 1984.

Upon the invitation of Jordan, the Founding Conference of the Academy was held in Amman (Jordan) in October 1986, under the patronage of HRH Prince Al-Hassan, who accepted the patronage of the Academy together with HE the President of Pakistan. Operating from its Amman Secretariat, the Academy hopes to continue the work it had started in 1986, namely assisting the decision-makers and scientists and technologists of the Ummah and helping them achieve an advanced level of development for their countries.

Famous quotes containing the word foundation:

But in every constitution some large degree of animal vigor is necessary as material foundation for the higher qualities of the art.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

Wonder is the foundation of all philosophy; research, the progress; ignorance, the end. There is, by heavens, a strong and generous kind of ignorance that yields nothing, for honour and courage, to knowledge: an ignorance to conceive which needs no less knowledge than to conceive knowledge.
    Michel de Montaigne (1533–1592)

The foundation of humility is truth. The humble man sees himself as he is. If his depreciation of himself were untrue,... it would not be praiseworthy, and would be a form of hypocrisy, which is one of the evils of Pride. The man who is falsely humble, we know from our own experience, is one who is falsely proud.
    Henry Fairlie (1924–1990)
