Islamic Society of North America Elementary School is an Islamic elementary school in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. The school is part of the Islamic Society of North America umbrella organization. ISNA Elementary School was founded in 1983, and moved to its current location in 1985; it is one of the oldest Islamic schools in the Greater Toronto Area. ISNA Elementary School offers all subjects required by the Ontario Ministry of Education: English, Math, Science, French (grades 4-8), Social Studies, Gym and Computer Studies. Additionally it also offers Arabic, Quran and Islamic Studies as part of the school's Islamic curriculum.
ISNA Elementary School also has a high school branch in Mississauga, which is called ISNA High School and is also run by the Islamic Society of North America. The high school is housed in the Islamic Center of Canada complex, which also houses a big mosque and the headquarters of ISNA Canada, among other amenities for Muslims such as an Islamic funeral service and an Islamic bookstore. It is one of the few Islamic high schools in the Greater Toronto Area.
The school building's exterior underwent a facelift during the summer of 2005. The facelift added a cream-yellow insulation to the brick building and archways to the design, embodying Islamic architecture - resembling the design of its high school branch. ISNA Elementary School was also covered by the media as part of the faith-based school funding debate proposed by the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario if they won the 2007 general election. ISNA Elementary School regularly faces other Islamic schools in the Greater Toronto Area in a yearly basketball tournament; the school's basketball team is called the ISNA Flames.
Famous quotes containing the words society, north, america, elementary and/or school:
“I reside at Table Mountain, and my name is Truthful James;
I am not up to small deceit, or any sinful games;
And Ill tell in simple language what I know about the row
That broke up our society upon the Stanislow.
But first I would remark, that it is not a proper plan
For any scientific man to whale his fellow-man,”
—Bret Harte (18361902)
“Only let the North exert as much moral influence over the South, as the South has exerted demoralizing influence over the North, and slavery would die amid the flame of Christian remonstrance, and faithful rebuke, and holy indignation.”
—Angelina Grimké (18051879)
“I have never been able to look upon America as young and vital but rather as prematurely old, as a fruit which rotted before it had a chance to ripen.”
—Henry Miller (18911980)
“When the Devil quotes Scriptures, its not, really, to deceive, but simply that the masses are so ignorant of theology that somebody has to teach them the elementary texts before he can seduce them.”
—Paul Goodman (19111972)
“The school system, custodian of print culture, has no place for the rugged individual. It is, indeed, the homogenizing hopper into which we toss our integral tots for processing.”
—Marshall McLuhan (19111980)
