Muslim population in the nation was increased by Middle Eastern settlers, mostly Arabs of Lebanese, Syrian, and Palestinian origins. It would be important to note that many native Dominicans have embraced Islam in the last few years.
A center of the science of Ihsan has been established, "Al Zawiya Alawiya Husayniya Ninowiya - Dominicana", a branch of the Shadhili Tariqa. The actual figures of the Muslim population growth has not been officially censused, though some sources give a number of 5,000 to 7,000.
