Islam in England

Islam in England is the largest non-Christian religion, with most Muslims being immigrants from South Asia (in particular Pakistan, Bangladesh and India) or descendants of immigrants from that region. Many others are from Muslim-dominated regions such as the Middle East, Afghanistan, Malaysia and Somalia, while fewer come from Equatorial African countries such as Nigeria, Uganda and Sierra Leone.

According to the 2011 Census, 2.7 million Muslims live in England where they form 5.0% of the population.

Famous quotes containing the words islam in, islam and/or england:

The exact objectives of Islam Inc. are obscure. Needless to say everyone involved has a different angle, and they all intend to cross each other up somewhere along the line.
    William Burroughs (b. 1914)

Sooner or later we must absorb Islam if our own culture is not to die of anemia.
    Basil Bunting (1900–1985)

In England if something goes wrong—say, if one finds a skunk in the garden—he writes to the family solicitor, who proceeds to take the proper measures; whereas in America, you telephone the fire department. Each satisfies a characteristic need; in the English, love of order and legalistic procedure; and here in America, what you like is something vivid, and red, and swift.
    Alfred North Whitehead (1861–1947)
