History

The university was founded in 1974 and admitted its first students in 1977. It was founded as Aryamehr University of Technology Isfahan branch and was renamed after the Islamic Revolution of Iran. Plans were to make the institution the largest university in the middle east that weren't completed because of political changes in the country. Isfahan University of Technology is a state university under the supervision of The Ministry of Culture and Higher Education. The original idea of a university of technology in the industrial zone of the country was conceived some thirty five years ago. However, IUT began its academic activities in 1977 with around 800 students in five departments; the enrollment has now grown to 10000 in twelve independent departments. The graduates from IUT have found great and varied opportunities and have played their key roles in a rapidly changing economic and industrial environment.

The university was designed and planned directly based on models of MIT and University of Illinois at Chicago.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

In the history of the human mind, these glowing and ruddy fables precede the noonday thoughts of men, as Aurora the sun’s rays. The matutine intellect of the poet, keeping in advance of the glare of philosophy, always dwells in this auroral atmosphere.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

No matter how vital experience might be while you lived it, no sooner was it ended and dead than it became as lifeless as the piles of dry dust in a school history book.
    Ellen Glasgow (1874–1945)

If you look at history you’ll find that no state has been so plagued by its rulers as when power has fallen into the hands of some dabbler in philosophy or literary addict.
    Desiderius Erasmus (c. 1466–1536)
