Iraqi Army Ranks Insignia - History

History

The Iraqi military adopted its system of ranking from the British Military. The Iraqi Military uses one of the most known ranking systems. The ranks are very similar of the American counter parts, but they differ in the way they appear.

Before the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003, NCOs in the Iraqi Army had limited input and commanded less authority than their western counterparts, as was the norm in eastern bloc countries which the Iraqi army was modelled on at the time. U.S. Military Transition Teams are now training Iraqi NCOs to bridge the gap between the officers and rank-and-file soldiers.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

Regarding History as the slaughter-bench at which the happiness of peoples, the wisdom of States, and the virtue of individuals have been victimized—the question involuntarily arises—to what principle, to what final aim these enormous sacrifices have been offered.
    Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (1770–1831)

It is my conviction that women are the natural orators of the race.
Eliza Archard Connor, U.S. suffragist. As quoted in History of Woman Suffrage, vol. 4, ch. 9, by Susan B. Anthony and Ida Husted Harper (1902)

To summarize the contentions of this paper then. Firstly, the phrase ‘the meaning of a word’ is a spurious phrase. Secondly and consequently, a re-examination is needed of phrases like the two which I discuss, ‘being a part of the meaning of’ and ‘having the same meaning.’ On these matters, dogmatists require prodding: although history indeed suggests that it may sometimes be better to let sleeping dogmatists lie.
