The Campaign
On March 23, Iranian trained militants of the Mahdi Army fired mortars on the heavily fortified Green Zone in Baghdad killing one U.S. diplomat and wounding several other people. At least 12 Iraqi civilians were also killed by mortars that missed the Green Zone and hit the civilian sectors around the Zone.
