Iqbal Khan (banker)

Iqbal Khan is the Founding Board Member and Chief Executive Officer of Fajr Capital Limited and Chairman of the Executive Committee and a board member of Jadwa Investment in Saudi Arabia. Mr. Khan is also a board member of Brunei Islamic Development Bank in Brunei Darussalam and Waqf Trust Services Limited in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Mr. Khan was formerly the Founding Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Amanah. He previously served as a board member of HSBC Bank Middle East, the Saudi British Bank, and HSBC Investment Bank in the Middle East and Saudi Arabia. He formerly held the position of Global Head of Islamic Finance for Citibank and prior to that was a Senior Investment Banker in Bahrain and London.

Mr. Khan is a founding member of the Harvard Islamic Finance Project at the Harvard University. He is also a member of the International Panel of Advisors for the Labuan Offshore Financial Services Authority, Malaysia; the Islamic Finance Advisory Council for the Dubai International Financial Centre; the Investment Committee for Bank Negara (central bank of Malaysia) Fund for Shariah Investments; and the Islamic Capital Market Consultative Panel for Bursa Malaysia, and the International Panel of Advisors from the Securities Commission Malaysia.

Mr. Khan is a Trustee of the London Muslim Centre and Chairman of the Business and Economics Committee for the Muslim Council of Britain. He is also a patron of the Young Arab Lawyers Programme at the University of Norwich and a visiting faculty member of The International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF) in Malaysia. Mr. Khan is also a founding member of the recently created Her Majesty’s Treasury Islamic Finance Experts Group in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Khan was bestowed with the Euromoney award for Outstanding Contribution to Islamic Finance for 2006, was voted by the Islamic Finance News as the best individual Islamic Banker for 2005, and he was recognised by the United States House of Representatives in 2000 for his contribution to the field of finance and economics.

Mr. Khan has a Masters degree in Political Science and International Relations and a B.Sc. (Hons) in Physics and Chemistry, both from Aligarh Muslim University. He further obtained an Advanced Management qualification from INSEAD as well as a professional qualification from NASD, New York.
