Alleged Links With The Exclusive Brethren

The Labour Party claims that members of the Exclusive Brethren church are behind many of the anti-Labour Party allegations published by Investigate. The connection is that private investigator Wayne Idour, who has previously done work for the Exclusive Brethren, is one of the sources for the May 2007 story about police corruption. Investigate responded by calling Labour's allegations a deliberate smear campaign and a "conspiracy theory", saying the magazine had a wide range of sources and that all stories had been generated through routine inquiries. Idour's role as an informant in the 2007 police story was because he had served in the Dunedin police at the relevant time. Other sources were quoted in the article, including interviews with eyewitnesses.

Famous quotes containing the words alleged, links, exclusive and/or brethren:

The entire construct of the “medical model” of “mental illness”Mwhat is it but an analogy? Between physical medicine and psychiatry: the mind is said to be subject to disease in the same manner as the body. But whereas in physical medicine there are verifiable physiological proofs—in damaged or affected tissue, bacteria, inflammation, cellular irregularity—in mental illness alleged socially unacceptable behavior is taken as a symptom, even as proof, of pathology.
    Kate Millett (b. 1934)

I’ve gradually risen from lower-class background to lower-class foreground.
Marvin Cohen, U.S. author and humorist. Baseball the Beautiful, Links Books (1970)

When we try in good faith to believe in materialism, in the exclusive reality of the physical, we are asking our selves to step aside; we are disavowing the very realm where we exist and where all things precious are kept—the realm of emotion and conscience, of memory and intention and sensation.
    John Updike (b. 1932)

A bargain is in its very essence a hostile transaction ... do not all men try to abate the price of all they buy? I contend that a bargain even between brethren is a declaration of war.
    George Gordon Noel Byron (1788–1824)
