Intrusion Detection System Evasion Techniques - Denial of Service

Denial of Service

An adversary can evade detection by disabling or overwhelming the IDS. This can be accomplished by exploiting a bug in the IDS, using up computational resources on the IDS, or deliberately triggering a large number of alerts to disguise the actual attack. The tools 'stick' and 'snot' were designed to generate a large number of IDS alerts by sending attack signatures across the network, but will not trigger alerts in IDSs that maintain application protocol context.

Famous quotes containing the words denial of, denial and/or service:

The denial of our duty to act in this case is a denial of our right to act; and if we have no right to act, then may we well be termed “the white slaves of the North,” for like our brethren in bonds, we must seal our lips in silence and despair.
    Angelina Grimké (1805–1879)

... that’s what living happens to be ... the physiological denial of reverence and good manners and Christianity.... At your age one’s quite old enough to know what the essence of life really is. Shamelessness, that’s all; pure shamelessness.
    Aldous Huxley (1894–1963)

Television could perform a great service in mass education, but there’s no indication its sponsors have anything like this on their minds.
    Tallulah Bankhead (1903–1968)
