Intra Asia Network - Background and Mission

Background and Mission

Intra Asia Network is an open source platform for culture organizations. Its mission is to facilitate artistic mobility of Asia's cultural producers, practitioners, and creative people, through the development, promotion and empowerment of culture exchange projects.

Since 2000, Asian culture directors have gathered in various cities, such as Hong Kong, Seoul, Shanghai, Sydney, Taiwan, to discuss the challenges and opportunities of sustainable engagement of artists and society. The conversations have also focused on the sustainable impact and contribution of the arts to the fast economic transformation of Asia. There is a deep awareness of regional diversity and traditions within Asia, but the cultural leaders also note common and growing stress of headlong urban development and marginalization of rural people.

Following the 2005 workshop and conferences, there was a consensus that a formal initiative be formed to help foster more intra-Asian exchanges and cultural dialogue. This objective was further confirmed at the more recent meeting of arts leaders in Seoul in September 2006. Thus Intra Asia Network, a collective consortium, has been established based on a shared vision to use Asian art and culture, and innovative project development, as the medium for a balanced social condition for all parts of Asia.

Famous quotes containing the words background and, background and/or mission:

I had many problems in my conduct of the office being contrasted with President Kennedy’s conduct in the office, with my manner of dealing with things and his manner, with my accent and his accent, with my background and his background. He was a great public hero, and anything I did that someone didn’t approve of, they would always feel that President Kennedy wouldn’t have done that.
    Lyndon Baines Johnson (1908–1973)

They were more than hostile. In the first place, I was a south Georgian and I was looked upon as a fiscal conservative, and the Atlanta newspapers quite erroneously, because they didn’t know anything about me or my background here in Plains, decided that I was also a racial conservative.
Jimmy Carter (James Earl Carter, Jr.)

Perhaps the mission of those who love mankind is to make people laugh at the truth, to make truth laugh, because the only truth lies in learning to free ourselves from insane passion for the truth.
    Umberto Eco (b. 1932)
