The International Shotokan Karate Federation (ISKF) is the largest shotokan karate organization in North and South America. In 1977, in an effort to spread the study of shotokan karate throughout the world, high-ranking members from the Japan Karate Association (JKA) founded the ISKF. In 2007, the ISKF split off from the JKA to become an independent organization. Members of the ISKF follow the teachings of shotokan's founder, Gichin Funakoshi. Though the ISKF is based mainly in the United States, affiliated dojos can be found in over forty countries worldwide. Teruyuki Okazaki (1931–present) is the chairman and chief instructor of the ISKF.

Famous quotes containing the words karate and/or federation:
“Since mothers are more likely to take children to their activitiesthe playground, ballet or karate class, birthday partiesthey get a chance to see other children in action.... Fathers usually dont spend as much time with other peoples kids; because of this, they have a narrower view of what constitutes normal behavior, and therefore what should or shouldnt require parental discipline.”
—Ron Taffel (20th century)
“Women realize that we are living in an ungoverned world. At heart we are all pacifists. We should love to talk it over with the war-makers, but they would not understand. Words are so inadequate, and we realize that the hatred must kill itself; so we give our men gladly, unselfishly, proudly, patriotically, since the world chooses to settle its disputes in the old barbarous way.”
—General Federation Of Womens Clubs (GFWC)
