International Concerto - Production

Production

A scene in which Colonel Malner and Major Kloss retrieve Sladek's pen from the piano, only to discover that it is a recording device, was filmed but deleted from the finished episode. Footage re-used from earlier Gerry Anderson series includes the shots of Sladek's monorail train (which originally appeared in the Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons episode "Model Spy"), and the Trans American TV Network building (part of a scene filmed but not used for Thunderbirds Are Go).

Incidental music was recorded on 20 March 1968 at Olympic Studios in London from 2 pm to 6 pm. Although titled as such, the eponymous International Concerto, composed by Barry Gray, does not fit the definition of a true concerto. Character Igor Sladek's piano recitals were performed by English pianist Robert Docker, while the child's hands seen in the live-action close-up shots of Joe playing the International Concerto belonged to Gray's son, Simon.
