International Association of Fire Fighters - Partisan Questions

Partisan Questions

The organization is non-partisan. While it endorsed Chris Dodd for President of the United States in the 2008 Democratic Primary and Barack Obama in the general election, it has a strong reputation of being a bi-partisan organization and has endorsed numerous Republicans over the years. It endorsed the successful gubernatorial candidacies of Rick Perry (Texas) and Mitch Daniels (Indiana), and has endorsed several Republican candidates for the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives. Examples of the IAFF’s endorsement of Republican in 2010 include Senators Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) and Chuck Grassley (Iowa); and Representatives Sam Graves (MO/6), John Shimkus (IL/19), Geoff Davis (KY/4) and Peter King (NY/3).

Famous quotes containing the words partisan and/or questions:

Partisanship should be kept out of the pulpit.... The blindest of partisans are preachers. All politicians expect and find more candor, fairness, and truth in politicians than in partisan preachers. They are not replied to—no chance to reply to them.... The balance wheel of free institutions is free discussion. The pulpit allows no free discussion.
    Rutherford Birchard Hayes (1822–1893)

Whereas the comic confronts simply logical contradictions, the tragic confronts a moral predicament. Not minor matters of true and false but crucial questions of right and wrong, good and evil face the tragic character in a tragic situation.
—Marie Collins Swabey. Comic Laughter, ch. 7, Yale University Press (1961)
