Intermediate Cuneiform Bone

The intermediate cuneiform (also known as second cuneiform / middle cuneiform) is shaped like a wedge, the thin end pointing downwards.

It is situated between the other two cuneiforms (the medial and lateral cuneiforms), and articulates with the navicular posteriorly, the second metatarsal anteriorly and with the other cuneiforms on either side.

Famous quotes containing the words intermediate and/or bone:

Complete courage and absolute cowardice are extremes that very few men fall into. The vast middle space contains all the intermediate kinds and degrees of courage; and these differ as much from one another as men’s faces or their humors do.
François, Duc De La Rochefoucauld (1613–1680)

    Fowls in the frith,
    Fishes in the flood,
    And I must wax wod:
    Much sorrow I walk with
For best of bone and blood.
