Interleukin 15 - Expression

Expression

Interleukin - 15 (IL-15) was discovered in 1994 by two different laboratories, and characterized as T cell growth factor. Together with interleukin 2 (IL-2), interleukin 4 (IL-4), interleukin 7 (IL-7), interleukin 9 (IL-9), granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF), and granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) belonging to the four α-helix bundle family of cytokine.

IL-15 is constitutively expressed by a large number of cell types and tissues, including monocytes, macrophages, dendritic cells (DC), keratinocytes, fibroblasts and nerve cells. As a pleiotropic cytokine plays an important role in innate and adaptive immunity.

Famous quotes containing the word expression:

We can see nothing whatever of the soul unless it is visible in the expression of the countenance; one might call the faces at a large assembly of people a history of the human soul written in a kind of Chinese ideograms.
    —G.C. (Georg Christoph)

Removed from its more restrictive sense, masturbation has become an expression for everything that has proved, for lack of human contact, to be void of meaning. We have communication problems, suffer from egocentrism and narcissism, are frustrated by information glut and loss of environment; we stagnate despite the rising GNP.
    Günther Grass (b. 1927)

I fear chiefly lest my expression may not be extra-vagant enough, may not wander far enough beyond the narrow limits of my daily experience, so as to be adequate to the truth of which I have been convinced.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
