It has been estimated that discrimination has caused black homeowners to pay more than $10.5 billion in extra home payments, and that black American homeowners lost $4,000 due to their home mortgages being 54 percent higher than whites'. This has also caused a disparity in the education that their children are able to receive, since education opportunities vary throughout communities, based on taxes. Schools in more impoverished areas are unable to provide the same type of educational opportunities as other communities. School building tend to be more rundown and the technology is typically older.
