TECHNICAL STANDARDS
IGEM produces a large range of Technical Standards in the following series:
•General
•Gas Legislation
•Gas Metering
•Safety
•Transmission and Distribution
•Utilization
These are recognised as trusted industry Standards, used to assist in compliance with national legislation and official approved codes of practice and guidance. The Standards are drafted by expert Panels representing a cross section of the relevant parts of the gas industry. Regulatory bodies such as HSE, Ofgem and Gas Safe RegisterTM contribute to the drafting process. The drafts are issued to the industry and other stakeholders for review and comment prior to publication and, thus, take into account the sometimes broad range of views on the content. The professional status of IGEM ensures its Standards reflect the best possible levels of safety, practice and quality within reasonable cost.
MISSION STATEMENT
By Royal Charter, IGEM's purpose is to be the independent influential body that efficiently and effectively represents and develops its membership and by working with all interested parties adds value to the international gas industry.
PURPOSE
The purpose of IGEM membership is to allow anyone in the gas industry at any level of engineering knowledge and understanding to join a professional Institution specialising in the industry giving you recognition and assistance in advancing your career.
In recent times membership of a professional body has become a valuable asset and there has never been a greater need for keeping your knowledge and skills up to date to enhance your employability and career. The title of CEng, IEng or EngTech immediately demonstrates commitment to professional excellence, best practice and competences that employers' value. IGEMs other grades include Member Manager, Associate Member, Gas Technician, Associate, Graduate and Student status.
IGEM is proud of its history and reputation as the leading professional body for gas professionals and continues to seek ways to broaden its membership base. In 2010 IGEM launched its newest grade of membership 'Gas Technican' specifically designed to recognise the expertise of people carrying out work on gas installations and appliances throughout the UK.

Gas International (Gi)The Journal of The Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers
Gi is published monthly with 10 issues a year (January/February and July/August being joint issues). The journal covers the gas and utility industries, including technical articles and company information. There are also standard features such as international and utility news, reports on IGEM events and activities, and gas diary dates.
Gi has a reach of circa 20k in over 70 countries with this figure set to increase when the journal becomes available in digital format from 2013. It is read by senior executives, managers, engineers, buyers and other professionals in the gas industry. It is distributed to all IGEM members (over half of which are chartered engineers), as well as strategic partners, individual subscribers and other interested parties. In addition copies are handed out at the many prestigious IGEM events such as the annual conference for the global gas industry held in June.
