History
INO was officially created in 1985, at the instigation of the Université Laval, which, at the time, accounted for half of Canada's researchers in optics/photonics, as well as the Canadian Association of Physicists, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada and various partners in the Québec City area. Its mission is to be a world-class center of expertise in optics and photonics that assists companies in improving their competitive edge and developing their business. INO aims to give birth every year to at least one spinoff company born from one of its scientific and technological outbreaks. The company holds offices in Québec City, Montréal, Hamilton and Edmonton.
INO was a pioneer in optics/photonics research for industrial development purposes and is today Canada’s leading center for industrial research and commercialization. Its technological breakthroughs and innovative processes and applications combining optics and photonics have helped many Canadian companies stay competitive in their respective fields.
In the coming years, INO intends to remain a leader in Canadian optics/photonics while continuing to assert itself internationally. With its vast scientific resources, INO believes it is more than ever positioned to help Canadian companies prosper and create employment, both locally and across the country. It aims to grow organically by venturing into new fields of application and also by increasing its presence across Canada.
