• The 2005 Indianapolis Colts were nicknamed on CBS as the "Indy 500 Offense".
• A short story by Jean Shepherd, also recited on WOR May 26, 1967, was entitled "Indy 500."
• On May 28, 1993, Paul Harvey's The Rest of the Story focused on the first Indianapolis 500 in 1911. The "twist" at the end revealed winner Ray Harroun first known use of a rear-view mirror.
