Indiana State Road 66 - Major Widening

Major Widening

Increasing traffic on the segment of State Road 66 between Evansville and the Alcoa plant east of Newburgh has led the Indiana Department of Transportation to widen the road (eventually being capable of expansion to six lanes) from State Road 261 to the western end of the present Yankeetown-Hatfield four-lane segment.

As of March 2009, work was well underway on the segment from State Road 261 to the Newburgh Lock & Dam. By the end of 2010, the project was complete from State Road 261 to French Island Trail (formerly Indiana State Road 662), and work was progressing from that point east beyond Indiana State Road 61 to the existing four-lane stretch near Yankeetown.

Famous quotes containing the words major and/or widening:

Self-centeredness is a natural outgrowth of one of the toddler’s major concerns: What is me and what is mine...? This is why most toddlers are incapable of sharing ... to a toddler, what’s his is what he can get his hands on.... When something is taken away from him, he feels as though a piece of him—an integral piece—is being torn from him.
    Lawrence Balter (20th century)

Jane Addams, founder of Hull House, once asked, “How shall we respond to the dreams of youth?” It is a dazzling and elegant question, a question that demands an answer—a range of answers, really, spiraling outward in widening circles.
William Ayers, U.S. author. To Teach: The Journey of a Teacher, ch. 7 (1993)
