Indian Human Spaceflight Program

The Indian human spaceflight programme is a proposal by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to develop and launch the ISRO Orbital Vehicle, which is to carry a two-member crew to Low Earth Orbit by 2016. The spaceship would be launched by India's GSLV-Mk II launcher. The recent reports indicate that the human spaceflight may be after 2017, on a GSLV-Mk III, as venture is not part of the 12th five-year plan (2012-2017). There is no time frame set for this mission as of now, with scientists admitting in private it may not happen in this decade, as ISRO does not have a human-rated launch vehicle and there is a budgetary constraints from the Union Government.

Famous quotes containing the words indian, human and/or program:

If you tie a horse to a stake, do you expect he will grow fat? If you pen an Indian up on a small spot of earth, and compel him to stay there, he will not be contented, nor will he grow and prosper. I have asked some of the great white chiefs where they get their authority to say to the Indian that he shall stay in one place, while he sees white men going where they please. They can not tell me.
    Chief Joseph (c. 1840–1904)

Poor America, of what avail is all her wealth, if the individuals comprising the nation are wretchedly poor? If they live in squalor, in filth, in crime, with hope and joy gone, a homeless, soilless army of human prey.
    Emma Goldman (1869–1940)

The Apache have a legend that the coyote brought them fire and that the bear in his hibernations communes with the spirits of the “overworld” and later imparts the wisdom gained thereby to the medicine men.
—Administration in the State of Arizona, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)
